Spooky MPI Members!

October is a great month and it contains one of my favorite holidays, Halloween! Halloween is a great holiday because it gives us the opportunity to dress up and be something wild, crazy, scary, or just something other than ourselves or for some of us; we can be exactly like our everyday personality!

I personally love Halloween and the opportunity to network with the neighborhood. Though you might think that networking is only for work, it is not. Networking during Halloween helps you to catch up with your neighbors and their families. So often, the daily rush allows us to forget that there are actual humans that live next to us. Relaxed networking times like these help us to improve our work-life networking skills.

I encourage you to go out this Halloween not just to scare the bejesus out of the trick- or-treaters, but also to learn something new about those that live so close to you. Just like in our work life, it always helps to know the people and resources around us. Who knows the day may come that you need to borrow that cool yard tool that you saw your neighbor using the other day!

REDUCE Negative Impacts and LEAVE Positive Legacies

If you are concerned about your event's environmental performance, it might be time to look into making it more sustainable.  Before you do, you need to know what to do and how to do it.  Sustainable event management is the process of integrating environmental and social responsibility issues into event planning.  Take steps to reduce significant negative impacts or harm, such as solid waste.  Seek out opportunities for events to leave positive legacies that benefit communities, including philanthropic and volunteer projects.

Who better to learn about sustainability from than the team at West Sixth Brewing where their mission statement is "We not only like to make good beer but the social impact we are able to make on our communities is top priority."

Learner Objectives:

Through a behind-the-scenes West Sixth Brewing tour and a panel discussion with local champions of sustainability efforts in the Food and Beverage Industry you will:

1) Learn practical ways of improving your event's environmental performance.

2.) Incorporate cost effective sustainability trends that can provide a 'wow factor' in your events.

3.) Gain an understanding of the impact sustainability has at your events.

Tentative Event Agenda:

11:00am - 11:15am     Registration and Creative Activity

11:15am - 12:15pm     Educational Facility Tour

12:15pm - 1:00pm       Lunch and Panel Discussion

1:00pm -   1:45pm      Test Your Knowledge Networking Activity

And Now Exciting News about French Lick Resort!

French Lick Resort Embarks on $17 Million Addition
Including New Guestrooms and Sports Bar

(September 12, 2018)  French Lick Resort is launching construction on a $17 million project that will add 56 guestrooms and a new sports bar.  Both are slated for completion in the fall of 2019. The additional rooms will bring the resort’s overall capacity to 754 rooms, encompass 54,450 additional square feet, and result in approximately 100 new staff positions across the resort.  Along with the ADA-accessible rooms and standard-sized rooms, the new addition will feature approximately 12 larger suites and more adjoining rooms. “Our volume of Event Center business increases every year. Now, those guests will be able to access these new venues easily since both will be a short walk from the Event Center. These are also two products that will give our guests more choices as they complement our existing line of guestrooms and restaurants,” said Adina Cloud, the resort’s Director of Sales.
